<link>http://repository.mtu.edu.et/xmlui/handle/123456789/119</link>
<description>THE EFFECT OF INVESTMENT ON LOCAL ECONOMY: EVIDENCE FROM BENCH SHEKO, KAFFA, SHEKA, AND MAJANG ZONE
WORKU, MOHAMMED; ALI, AYALEW
The aim of this study is to empirically examine the effect of investment on the local economy in&#13;
the Bench Sheko, Kaffa, Sheka, and Majang zone using both quantitative and qualitative&#13;
research approaches. The qualitative research approach is used to assess the effect of investment&#13;
on the local economy in terms of job opportunities, tax revenue, technology transfer,&#13;
infrastructure provision, and value chain creation of investments operated in southwest Ethiopia&#13;
by using interviews and questionnaires. The data were collected from 195 investments operated&#13;
from Bench Sheko, Kaffa, Sheka, and Majang zone. The study found that all service,&#13;
manufacturing, and agricultural investment sectors contribute more to the local economy by&#13;
providing job opportunities, tax revenue, technology transfer, infrastructure provision, and value&#13;
chain creation. Specifically, the study found that the agricultural investment sector transfers&#13;
more technology to the local community than the service sector and manufacturing sector&#13;
investment. In addition, agricultural sector investment creates more value chains than service&#13;
and manufacturing investment sectors. Therefore, the study concluded that all investment sectors&#13;
have a role in the local economy of the Bench Sheko, Kaffa, Sheka, and Majang zone. Thus, the&#13;
Zone investment offices should create a conducive environment for investors to come and invest&#13;
in the area.

<title>Key determinants of micro and small-scale enterprises success in case of manufacturing sectors in Bench Sheko and Shaka zone, southwest Ethiopia people region</title>
<link>http://repository.mtu.edu.et/xmlui/handle/123456789/117</link>
<description>Key determinants of micro and small-scale enterprises success in case of manufacturing sectors in Bench Sheko and Shaka zone, southwest Ethiopia people region
Zewudie, Tsegaw; Demissie, Cherinet
In spite of their importance as social and economic functions, every Entrepreneur exposed to the&#13;
risk of failure as well as to the possibility of success when operating in the business environment.&#13;
The current study aims to answer the key determinant factors behind the success and failure of&#13;
micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in case of manufacturing sectors in Bench Sheko and Shaka&#13;
zone, southwest Ethiopia people region, and the main objective of this study was to examine how&#13;
firm size, capital investment, managers or owners educational level, innovation, and competition&#13;
affect success of the manufacturing enterprises in the study area. For the sake of achieving this&#13;
objective, the researchers employed sequential explanatory research design, which is characterized by&#13;
the collection, and analysis of quantitative data, followed by a qualitative method based on the results of&#13;
the quantitative method with cross-sectional data sources and collection instruments. From the total&#13;
580 manufacturing enterprises running in the two zones, 237 samples were taken (139 from&#13;
Mizan Amman town and 98 from Tepi town) by using Yamane’s formula (1977) (cited in Israel,&#13;
1992) and the selection of the sample respondents is carried out by using proportional stratified&#13;
random sampling method. Data collected using likert scale questionnaire analyzed quantitatively&#13;
by using descriptive statistical analysis such as percentage, frequency and inferential statistical&#13;
analysis like Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis.&#13;
The Major finding of the study revealed that the size of the firm, the level of education of the&#13;
owner/manager, the amount of capital invested, the level of innovation, and the level of&#13;
competition are all significant determinants of entrepreneurial success in the manufacturing&#13;
sector in the study area. Based on these finding the researchers recommended that companies&#13;
can consider mergers and acquisitions as a strategy to increase their size, invest in training and&#13;
development programs to improve the knowledge and skills of their managers, firms may&#13;
consider increasing their investment in long-term assets to improve the efficiency and&#13;
effectiveness of their operations, and consider strategies such as price differentiation or&#13;
developing unique products or services to stand out in the market.

organizational performance of large-scale agricultural investments in Southwest Ethiopia.&#13;
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at South west part of Ethiopia. A total of 381 study&#13;
participants were recruited using proportionate random sampling technique. The data were collected using&#13;
a pretested self-administered questionnaire. The collected data were entered into SPSS version 23.&#13;
Descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation were used. Inferential statistics of&#13;
multiple linear regression was done to analyze the effect of independent variables&#13;
Results: Among the variables identified four of the independent variables (legal responsibility,&#13;
ethical responsibility, philanthropic responsibility, environmental responsibility had statistically&#13;
significant effect on organizational performance with a p-value of α=0.05).&#13;
Conclusion: all the explanatory variables used to explain organizational performance were&#13;
found to be capable of explaining the organizational performance in the sector as well. Therefore, the&#13;
investments should work on the identified explanatory variables to increase their organizational&#13;
performance.
